On June 4, Azerbaijani activist Rabiyya Mammadova reported that her mother, who is employed as a sanitation worker, encountered a violent treatment by her colleague the same day. Mammadova also revealed that verbal mistreatment by the same person against her 59-year-old mother has been displayed for nearly a month at workplace, and she believes that it’s politically motivated because of her activism.
For a month now, she [the accused] has been bullying my mom at work, showing my photos and videos and saying “why won’t you take measures about your daughter”. Today, as my mom was leaving their changing room, she stopped my mom, grabbed her purse and kicked it to my mom’s head, and grabbed her hair. My mom has bad knees, and everyone at work knew about it. She also kicked with her leg at my mom’s knees. Only the other colleagues managed to pull my mom out of her hands and accompany her until the bus stop. Even at the bus stop the woman came over and continued to insult my mom, calling me names.

Mammadova wrote on Facebook that as she went to police with her mother, they found out that the alleged aggressor also reported the incident to the police, only to claim that Mammadova’s mother launched the attack. On June 6, Mammadova stated that medical examination ruled that the aggressor “suffered unknown injuries”.
Rabiyya Mammadova is feminist and political activist, regularly attending protest rallies. She also ran for parliament in 2020.
