Elkhan Aliyev, member of opposition Popular Front Party is on the fifth day of hunger strike while under arrest.
The party stated to Turan that Aliyev called from the Detention Center of those under Administrative Arrests on March 23, saying that he has started hunger strike from March 19, when he was arrested. Aliyev was sentenced to 30-day jail time on charge of “not obeying to police’s lawful orders”.
Aliyev claims that money he had in his car while being detained went missing, the party reported.
“On March 19, after parking his car, while talking to his friend nearby, officers of Baku City Chief Police Department tried to rudely detain him and put him in their car. Elkhan Aliyev told the police that there is his cellphone and 2500 manats, which belonged to someone else, in his car, and he needed to take them, but the police didn’t let him.”
Aliyev asked the officers present in the courtroom the fate of the money, and was told that there was no money in his car while they scrutinized it. Aliyev stresses that he won’t stop hunger strike until the money is returned to him.
