On August 31, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan and President of the European Council Charles Michel met in Brussels for the forth time. Following the meeting, each side released its own statement, informing of what was discussed.
According to Michel, the parties discussed the issues they agreed to work on in a previous meeting in May. These are the issues of drafting peace agreement, humanitarian issues “including demining, detainees and the fate of missing persons”, border issues, and unblocking transport links.
Regarding peace agreement, the European Council’s statement acknowledges that the foreign ministries of Armenia and Azerbaijan are tasked to meet within one month to work on draft texts.
The statement also suggests that Michel “stressed to Azerbaijan the importance of further release of Armenian detainees”.
The parties agreed to hold their next meeting, as well as that of the border commissions established to work on delimitation of state borders, by the end of November.
