Azerbaijani former diplomat Emin Ibrahimov was detained on July 24 and sentenced to 4 months of pre-trial detention.
What happened: According to his lawyer, Emin was accused of stabbing a person, and he was charged with Article 126.2.4 (intentional infliction of serious harm to health) and Article 221 (hooliganism) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan.
- According to his lawyer Agil Layic, Emin considers his detention related to his critical statements against the authorities.
- Recently Emin sharply criticized the strengthening relationship of the Azerbaijani government with Russia.
- In order to protest his arrest yesterday, after the court decision Emin started a hunger strike.
Who Emin Ibrahimov: Emin served as a diplomat between 2007 and 2020. He worked at the Azerbaijani Embassy in the USA and the Azerbaijani diplomatic mission in Uruguay.
